Holding Space for Transition

August lives in between.

It’s the bridge between the openness of summer and the structure of fall. The days still feel warm, but routines begin to shift. Anticipation builds as summer winds down, sometimes with excitement, sometimes with unease.

From a wellness perspective, transitions require more energy than we often realize. Research on cognitive load shows that even positive change demands mental and emotional processing. When multiple transitions happen at once, it’s common to feel unsettled or fatigued.

August invites us to hold space rather than rush ahead.

This season is an opportunity to notice what’s ending and what’s beginning, without forcing clarity too quickly.

Holding space might look like:

  • acknowledging mixed emotions

  • allowing uncertainty without judgment

  • resisting the urge to immediately “fix” what feels unsettled

Studies on emotional resilience suggest that naming uncertainty rather than avoiding it supports emotional regulation and self-trust. When we give ourselves permission to be "in the middle", we build confidence in our ability to navigate change.

Take 10 with Jen:

Once this week, pause and ask:

  • What am I transitioning out of?

  • What am I transitioning into?

  • What support would feel helpful right now?

You don’t need to actually act on the answers. Noticing is enough.

August reminds us that growth can happen in the in-between times. When we honor transition instead of rushing through it, we create a steadier foundation for what comes next.
